In Episode 46 of the Design and Align Your Business Podcast, we had the immense pleasure of diving deep with Drea Essex, a trailblazer in dog training, about her incredible voyage of self-understanding and empowerment through Human Design.
Discovering Human Design
Before discovering her Human Design, Drea was flying blind. She had ambitions and a vivid vision but lacked a structured understanding of her core strengths and limitations. It wasn't until I introduced her to Human Design that things started to align for Drea.
The Aha Moment: Understanding the 3/5 Profile
The 3/5 profile in Human Design was an eye-opener for Drea. The 3/5 profile is known for being highly experimental and solutions-oriented, often thriving through trial and error. Drea realized that her natural inclination to experiment, especially in her business, was not just a quirk but a fundamental part of her design. This understanding helped her lean into her tendency to test new ideas and methods without self-judgment. It affirmed that each failed experiment was just another stepping stone on her path to success.
Emotional Authority: The Power of Pausing
Another transformative realization for Drea was learning about her Emotional Authority. Emotional Manifestors are guided by their emotions, and their decision-making process benefits immensely from taking their time. Drea began to harness this by not jumping into decisions impulsively. Instead, she allowed herself to ride the emotional wave until she reached a calm, neutral state. This shift markedly improved her decision-making process, both in business and personal life, making her choices more aligned and less stressful.
The Importance of Asking for Help
One of the most impactful lessons Drea adopted was the importance of asking for help. Manifestors are natural initiators, but they can struggle with follow-through. Understanding that she's designed to start things but not necessarily finish them alone gave Drea the freedom to seek and accept help from others. This wasn't a sign of weakness but a strategic move, allowing her to focus on her strengths and let others contribute their gifts.
Recognizing and Embracing Rest Cycles
Drea's journey also had its humbling moments, particularly when it came to recognizing her need for rest. As a Manifestor, Drea noted that when she suddenly needed to rest, it was overwhelming and could feel like hitting a brick wall. Accepting this as a natural part of her design, rather than fighting it, allowed her to recharge and return with renewed vigor. This balance between periods of intense activity and needed rest was a game-changer in maintaining her overall well-being.
Reprogramming the Inner Generator
One of the more challenging aspects for Drea was to stop working like a Generator—a type in Human Design that has a consistent and sustainable energy for work. Manifestors don't work this way, and trying to keep up with that pace only led to burnout. By reprogramming her mindset, she allowed herself to create in spurts, knowing she would naturally cycle back to rest. This adjustment removed a lot of unnecessary pressure and increased her productivity when she was active.
Through understanding her Human Design, Drea realized that leadership doesn't mean doing everything alone. True leadership involves recognizing and leveraging one's strengths while also understanding when and how to bring others into the fold. By stepping into her authentic self, informed by her Human Design, Drea has not only grown her business but also touched the lives of those she works with in meaningful ways.
